About Opus Puzzles

Who is Opus Puzzles and what makes your puzzles different?

Opus Puzzles is an independent brand making premium wooden puzzles for people who love craftsmanship, nature, and slow, screen-free time. Every puzzle is laser-cut from real basswood, features irregular edges, and includes whimsy pieces shaped like hidden objects. We focus on quality over quantity, and every design is built to be kept and displayed, not thrown away.

Where are your wooden puzzles designed and made?

Our puzzles are designed by our small team and produced in partnership with a specialist wooden puzzle workshop. Every piece is cut from carefully sourced basswood plywood and hand-inspected before it ships to you.

How can I contact Opus Puzzles customer support?

The fastest way to reach us is through the contact form on our website. We usually respond within one business day. For order-specific questions, please include your order number so we can help you faster.

Do you work with retailers or offer wholesale?

We are growing and open to selective retail partnerships. If you run a gift shop, stationery store, or puzzle cafe and would like to carry Opus Puzzles, please reach out through our contact form with details about your business.

Wooden Puzzles 101

What is the difference between a wooden puzzle and a cardboard jigsaw?

Wooden puzzles are laser-cut from solid basswood plywood, giving each piece real weight and a satisfying click when it snaps into place. Unlike cardboard, wood does not tear, warp, or fade, so your puzzle can be reused for decades. Opus Puzzles wooden puzzles also include whimsy pieces and irregular edges, which cardboard jigsaws almost never offer.

What are whimsy pieces?

Whimsy pieces are individual puzzle pieces laser-cut into recognizable shapes like animals, leaves, stars, and everyday objects. They are a traditional feature of high-end wooden puzzles and add moments of delight as you solve. Every Opus Puzzles design includes whimsies that relate to the theme of the artwork.

Why do wooden puzzles cost more than cardboard jigsaws?

Wooden puzzles use premium materials, laser cutting, and hand inspection, all of which take far more time and care than die-cutting cardboard. The result is a keepsake-quality product you can pass down, rather than a one-time experience that ends up in the recycling bin.

Can I reuse an Opus Puzzles wooden puzzle?

Absolutely. Opus Puzzles wooden puzzles are built to be solved, taken apart, and solved again. Basswood holds its shape for years as long as you keep the pieces in the original box and away from moisture and direct sunlight.

Sizes, Difficulty and Assembly

What sizes do Opus Puzzles wooden puzzles come in?

Every design is available in four sizes: Kids ($29.95), Small ($34.95), Medium ($39.95), and Large ($49.95). Piece count and finished size depend on the design's shape, and each product page lists the exact size and count. As a rough guide, Kids has around 100 pieces, Small around 200, Medium around 300, and Large around 500. All four sizes share the same artwork, just at different levels of challenge.

Which size should I pick?

Kids is our smallest and quickest size, a great first wooden puzzle or a travel companion you can finish in about an hour. Small is perfect for a relaxed evening or a beginner. Medium is our most popular size and suits most adult puzzlers. Large has the richest detail and the most dramatic finished piece for display.

How long does an Opus Puzzles wooden puzzle take to assemble?

Kids usually takes about an hour, Small about two hours, Medium about three hours, and Large is a weekend project of about four to five hours. Times vary by experience and by how much you savor the process.

Are Opus Puzzles wooden puzzles too hard for beginners?

They are a little more challenging than cardboard jigsaws. We rate them at difficulty level 3 thanks to irregular edges, whimsy pieces, and no straight borders to start from. First-time wooden puzzlers do great starting with our Kids or Small size.

Gifting

Do Opus Puzzles wooden puzzles make good gifts?

Yes, they are one of our most popular gift categories. The sturdy gift-ready box, heirloom-quality wood, and four size options make it easy to match the puzzle to the recipient. They work well for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, retirement, and thank-you gifts.

Are wooden puzzles safe for children?

Opus Puzzles wooden puzzles are designed for ages 13 and up. They contain small pieces and fine shapes that are not appropriate for young children. Older children and teens often enjoy solving them alongside a parent.
